The ad-network entry ladder inverted in 2026 and most guides still have it backwards
Mediavine Official now gates on $5,000 annual ad revenue rather than 50,000 sessions. Raptive cut to 25,000 pageviews. Ezoic raised to 250,000 monthly active users.
- How it was measured
- Read each network's own live eligibility page and quoted verbatim, rather than citing summaries. Cross-checked against the pages currently ranking for the query.
- Evidence current as of
The standard advice is that you start on AdSense, graduate to Ezoic because it has no minimum, then reach Mediavine at 50,000 sessions and Raptive at 100,000 pageviews.
Every number in that sentence is now wrong.
| Network | Widely cited | Current |
|---|---|---|
| Mediavine Official | 50,000 sessions/mo | $5,000+ annual ad revenue |
| Mediavine Journey | — | 1,000 sessions |
| Raptive | 100,000 pageviews/mo | 25,000 pageviews/mo |
| Ezoic | no minimum | 250,000 monthly active users |
| Monumetric Propel | — | 10,000 pageviews + $99 one-time fee |
The ladder inverted. Ezoic, universally described as the no-minimum on-ramp, is now the hardest of the three to reach. Raptive and Mediavine Journey are both reachable long before it.
The consequence nobody states
Mediavine Official gates on revenue, not traffic. Read that again: you cannot qualify without already earning $5,000 a year somewhere, and for a new site that somewhere is AdSense.
AdSense is therefore not the thing you outgrow. It is the qualification for the next tier. That reorders the whole plan — the thing everyone treats as a stepping stone is the gate.
Why the wrong numbers persist
Mediavine's own marketing page still states the 50,000-session requirement. It is dated October 2019, it carries a small editor's note, and it outranks the current help-centre article that says 1,000.
This is not a case of writers being lazy. The stale page is the one Google surfaces, on the vendor's own domain. Checking the primary source means checking which primary source, and preferring the help centre over the marketing site is not an obvious move until you have been caught by it.
